About Us
In 2011, Purvin & Gertz was acquired by IHS Inc. -- the leading provider of critical information and insight in critical areas that shape today's business landscape. The acquisition of Purvin & Gertz (PGI) combines PGI's extensive downstream expertise with the trusted IHS upstream and petrochemical services creating an integrated research and consulting portfolio with application throughout the energy value chain.
Purvin & Gertz, Inc. was founded in 1947 by Robert Purvin and Bud Gertz in Dallas. The firm evolved into a globally recognized independent energy consultancy with headquarters in Houston, Texas and an international network of offices in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Russia and Asia providing services to the crude oil, petroleum refining, natural gas, LPG, NGL and power generation industries.
Purvin & Gertz provides consulting support in project development, market analysis, strategic planning, and project finance, as well as participants in the sale and purchases of refining, transportation, and other oil and gas industry assets. PGI also provides analysis that cover crude oil, refined products, natural gas, and natural gas liquids in both short-term (24 months) and long-term (20 years) time frames. Purvin & Gertz uses fundamental analysis of supply demand and trade to develop detailed projections of crude oil and natural gas prices, refining profitability, and refined products/NGL prices.
Purvin & Gertz is now a part of an advisory services business at IHS that has more than doubled since 2010, expanding its presence into new geographic regions and adding consultants in Russia, Shanghai, Bangkok, Singapore, Canada and Brazil. IHS now draws on more than 1,000 analysts, researchers and economists covering a variety of industries in more than 150 countries.
